AIS

Andinet International School (AIS) was established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2003 by Nefertiti Makeda, an American educator, and Ethiopian kindergarten teacher, Zewudinesh Tilahun. Supported by their husbands, the two women began a small international kindergarten in a beautiful rented house surrounded by the most splendid and colorful garden. They had only two students to begin with, one from Ethiopia and the other from Tanzania. The same year, our colleague and renowned Ethiopian writer, Sisay Negussu joined the team.  Expatriates and Ethiopians were quickly drawn to the unique little school that focused on quality education, a nurturing environment and cultural inclusiveness. By the end of the sixth year the number of students had grown to more than 500. By the end of the seventh year the number of students had grown to more than 850 students. The rapid growth was supported by a merger with another educational company in Ethiopia sharing a common educational mission at the tertiary level. Dynamic International University College (DIUC), founded by Ethiopian Diasporas, together with local investors became our new partners. The university college’s name was later changed to Andinet International University College (AIUC).
